How To Avoid The 3 Most Common Affiliate Mistakes

Affiliate marketing is one of the most effective and powerful ways of earning some money online. This program gives everybody a chance to make a profit through the Internet. Since these affiliate marketing programs are easy to join, implement and pays a commission on a regular basis, more an more people are now willing in this business.

However, like all businesses, there are lots of pitfalls in the affiliate marketing business. Committing some of the most common mistakes will cost the marketers a large portion taken from the profit they are making everyday. That is why it is better to avoid them than be regretful in the end.

Mistake number 1: Choosing the wrong affiliate.

Many people want to earn from affiliate marketing as fast as possible. In their rush to be part of one, they tend to choose a bandwagon product. This is the kind of products that the program thinks is “hot”. They choose the product that is in demand without actually considering if the product appeals to them.

This is not a very wise move obviously. Instead of jumping on the bandwagon, try to choose a product in which you are truly interested in.

For any endeavor to succeed, you should take some time to plan and figure out your actions.

Pick a product that appeals to you.

Then do some research about that product to see if they are in demand. Promoting a product you are more passionate about is easier than promoting one for the sake of the earnings only.

Mistake number 2: Joining too many affiliate programs.

Since affiliate programs are very easy to join, you might be tempted to join multiples of affiliate programs to try and maximize the earnings you will be getting. Besides you may think that there is nothing wrong and nothing to lose by being part of many affiliate programs. True, that is a great way to have multiple sources of income.

However, joining multiple programs and attempting to promote them all at the same time will prevent you from concentrating on each one of them.

The result? The maximum potential of your affiliate program is not realized and the income generated will not exactly be as huge as you were thinking initially it would.

The best way to get excellent result is by joining just one program that pays a 100% commission! Then give it your best effort by promoting your products enthusiastically. As soon as you see that it is already making a reasonable profit, then maybe you can now join another affiliate program. The technique is to do it slowly but surely. There is really no need to rush into things, especially with affiliate marketing.

With the way things are going, the future is looking real bright and it seems affiliate marketing will be staying for a long time too.

Mistake number 3: Not buying the product or using the service.

As an affiliate, you main purpose is to effectively and convincingly promote a product or service and to find customers.

For you to achieve this purpose, you must be able to relay to the customers that certain product and service. It is therefore difficult for you to do this when you yourself have not tried these things out. Thus, you will fail to promote and recommend them convincingly. You will also fail to create a desire in your customers to avail any of what you are offering.

Try the product or service personally first before you sign up as an affiliate to see if it is really delivering what it promises. If you have done so, then you are one of the credible and living testaments aware of its advantages and disadvantages. Your customers will then feel the sincerity and truthfulness in you and this will trigger them to try them out for themselves.

Many affiliate marketers makes these mistakes and are paying dearly for their actions. To not fall into the same situation they have been in, try to do everything to avoid making the same mistakes. Time is the key. Take the time to analyze your marketing strategy and check if youa re in the right track. If done properly, you will be able to maximize your affiliate marketing program and earn higher profits.

About The Author

I’ve been involved in an array of MLM companies since the 1980’s when I tried to make a go of it with Amway. I had a door-to-door job at the time doing a questionnaire with people to see if they were interested in attending Microsoft Office classes. They were all on government assistance and my Amway sponsors tried to help me recruit them – dismal results. I joined up with several other MLM companies (Excel, Mannatech, EcoQuest) and most companies would provide scripts to talk to leads over the phone to try to recruit them and sell them some introductory package but since I am no sales person this became very frustrating. My last MLM company was Herbalife which I joined up to in August of 2011 and I recruited about 4 people from a pool of maybe 800 or more leads at $100 per lead and all but one returned the business pack. This too became frustrating and I walked away from Herbalife but am still a non-active distributor and I get a 35% discount on their products. In the fall of 2011 I became interested in affiliate marketing and bought a Gold membership to SureFire Wealth which gave me PLR rights to a large number of ebooks in various IM categories that I could market. They also provide DFY capture pages, sales pages and email swipe copy but unfortunately, at the time I did not know how to upload files to a hosting site and I had no hosting site anyway. So, this endeavor never did get off the ground. Since then I joined up to Joel Therien’s GVO (Global Virtual Opportunities) and got a hosting site address with them and the blog was created by internet marketer Stone Evans who also put over 300 posts on it centered on the work from home niche. I purchased leads from a couple of lead companies and used GVO’s professionally created capture pages, email swipe copy and autoresponder to do email marketing of GVO’s and Stone Evan’s affiliate products but again this was dismal and I made no sales at all. I figured out later this amounted to pitching to dead-cold leads (some of which were from non-English speaking countries) who did not know me or trust me. Through GVO I learned how to create a sales page and I learned to upload files to my hosting site. I then created a sales page from a product that provided a template and I used the sales page to try to recruit leads to become Herbalife distributors. As with the other products, I bought leads and did email marketing with the link to the sales page in the emails. I got nowhere with this for the same reason as above – marketing to cold leads that did not know me or care about my product. The following year in 2012 I read Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring and this was my first introduction into the concept of Attraction Marketing. I learned that it was important to develop the know, like and trust factor in the prospect and to lead with value and focus on solving their pain/challenge/problem in whatever niche I market in (internet marketing, health and nutrition etc) and that this is done by providing free information in the form of an e-book, cheat sheet or video. I continued my education into the online marketing field by buying into and studying various information products over the next couple of years. In late 2014 I became a monthly member of My Lead System Pro (MLSP), now rebranded as Digital Mentors, which has recorded training webinars and videos galore in the field of internet marketing along with a weekly live webinar with hugely successful marketers explaining how to generate leads either for free or very low cost to make sales. I became very enthused about this site and it lead to my becoming aware of industry leaders, Michelle Pesocosolido and her husband, Bill. They were very prominent in MLSP and Michelle created several training webinars focused on Facebook and Twitter marketing and how to stay out of Facebook jail. It was through following Michelle that I was able to purchase her flagship A-Z info product on Facebook marketing called Social Media Branding Academy. I bought it in the spring of 2015 and spent literally the rest of the year taking notes on the 32 modules. Through Michelle and Bill Pescosolido and various webinars they put on which I watched in 2015 I became aware of a highly successful online marketing company which I joined in December of that year and have earned over $34,000 (CAD) in my first 6 months! I have never in my life in any of the other businesses I was involved in ever made so much money. I am also working with guru marketer, Joel Therien mentioned above), CEO of his new company called Now Lifestyle, and am using the five digital tools his company makes available to market those same tools. I have built capture pages and webinar broadcast pages with the company’s Page Builder and HD Video Sharing platform to generate leads online and I am using their Lead Capture system and Auto Responder to conduct email marketing with these leads. Currently, I am working with a very young but highly successful entrepreneur, whose name is Misha Wilson. He formed a hugely successful internet marketing and home-business training company called The Mastery Institute a few years ago and uses it to market his flagship marketing courses and training events. I attended one of these training events in October of 2018 in Reno, Nevada. I met some successful marketers at the event and actually had lunch with a few of them. Most recently, I am working with a highly successful online marketer by the name of Vick Strizheus and his Affiliate Business System. He teaches how you can set up an online money hub in 7 days complete with high-ticket marketing information courses, marketing tools and business opportunity programs that are strategically designed to attract visitors and present them with links to purchase these items from the vantage point of a free online marketing course.
